Did you see that Comet?
When KSBY told us about the Neowise comet that was passing by us a while ago, Sue and I decided we just HAD to see it. We were lucky enough to see that rocket launch from Vandenberg last year that blew up the sky with radical colors and shapes and was totally awesome!
So we expected a great show in the sky this time, too!
Unfortunately, the Baywood fog was hovering around a few nights and we couldn’t see a thing. Then once again, the news said tonight was going to be a great time to see it and luckily the fog cleared and it was a spectacular night.
We tried to think of a good vantage point and somehow ended up at Sea Pines golf course and ventured out to the number 3 green which is way out on the course and plenty far from lights and houses, perfect for an unobstructed view - but the catch was we had to wait till it got completely dark.
They projected the comet would come in sight at exactly 9:10 or so and can be seen directly under the Big Dipper. So we craned our necks up at the sky and as it got darker we both thought we could see it, very faintly, we kept saying to each other ‘is that it?’ squinting, straining, trying to focus on this really faint trail of stars, suddenly a huge falling star shot across the sky so beautiful - but fleeting fast - we both went WOW!
Sue said ‘make a wish’ I’m not allowed to say what I was wishing for because then it won’t come true right?!! …then out of nowhere
BAM! the sprinklers came on at the golf course and scared the crap out of us! It was classic!
We ran and laughed our asses off hoping not to get soaked and screaming to each other ‘forget about the stupid comet!’
We headed back to the clubhouse and enjoyed a brew and some Dolce Vida (tequila) and continued to laugh at what turned out to be another fun and beautiful night on the Central Coast. Just seeing all the stars up in the heaven’s made this a memorable and special experience and kept both of us feeling totally In the Groove.
Guess we won’t be seeing that comet again anytime soon though. It’s not coming back for 600 years!
