The Very First Beer at the Pier
Inquiring minds want to know!!
Now that Beer at the Pier has become a weekly event in Baywood Park…
Who played the first one and how did it start?
That’s easy, it was me!
Ha! Me, and my good friends, Paul Irving owner of BigBigSLO and the talented, Ted Emrick, gifted artist and all around cool dude and a long time local (and p.s. a great surfer!)
Any who I, Curtis ‘Millertime’ Miller, would go to Baywood pier with my trusty dog, Brody, and play guitar, drink a beer and watch the sunset after a long taxing day on the golf course!
Sure enough, Ted comes down with his beloved dog, Buck, and a couple of Sapporo’s and up comes Paul to film another beautiful sunset.
As we all imbibed a brew and stated how lucky we are to live in such a groovy place, Ted said:
“we should do this every Monday!”
To that, we raised a toast in agreement and there you go.
I played with Tuan Chau and my brother, Robin Miller, at Back Bay Cafe outside on the sidewalk for the inaugural event.
Now 3 years later, it’s one of the premier special events that showcases what a great extended family the Baywood community is.
